It’s said that quitting smoking is one of the hardest things a person can choose to do in their lifetime. And this largely comes down to the fact that people who have smoked for a long time will have a habit that is a large part of their life and daily routine, as well as likely having quite an addiction/dependency on Nicotine.
But quitting smoking is not an impossible task, especially in this day and age when there’s so many options out there now to help make this process as easy and stress free as possible, including the newest option which is becoming the most popular method of Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
Making a plan on how you will succeed in quitting smoking could massively help the process, and in this article, I’m going to give an example plan of what you could do to ensure you quit smoking and start vaping as easy as possible. Let’s get into it!
#1 – Make The Decision!
Pretty obvious that this is the first part of the plan, and it’s probably the most important and that is making the choice to quit smoking! It doesn’t have to be a snap choice, and something like a there and then decision.
It’s going to be a tough one to make, no denying it, but the rewards will be worth it! Set out a goal date in your mind of when you want to quit, and make it one that you’re comfortable with. So if you think you’ll be ready in a months time, go for then. Or start at the beginning of the month so you can keep track of your progress easier than if you opted for the middle of the month.
And when the time comes to quit, try and stick to it! But if you feel you’re not ready, then just delay it a little bit longer. Quitting smoking needs a serious amount of want and desire to actually do it, so it’s best to go into it ready and willing than on the fence.
#2 – Nicotine Replacement Therapy Is An Essential Tool
Nicotine Replacement Therapy is the name of what’s used to help people quit smoking, and in my eyes, it’s absolutely imperative to use a form of this to help you quit smoking. NRT basically still gives your body Nicotine that it has been accustomed to, but in smaller doses so your body will begin to adapt to less nicotine, and your dependency/addiction to nicotine will become less than it was.
Different forms of NRT have been available on the market for a long time, traditional methods such as Nicotine Patches, Nicotine Gum, Sprays and Lozenges are available to buy or even get prescribed from your GP if you go and seek advice and help to quit smoking.
But the newest form of NRT people are using with great success to quit smoking that I mentioned is a trusty E-Cigarette! Whilst these are not available on prescription (yet…maybe wishful thinking on my part but you never know!) GP’s and Stop Smoking Services are recommending that people try E-Cigarettes as their first port of call when wanting to quit smoking.
This is because there has been proven evidence that people who used an E-Cigarette with Nicotine containing vape juice to quit smoking were considerably more successful at quitting for at least 6 months or more than those who used no nicotine vape juice, or other traditional forms of Nicotine Replacement Therapy like the patches, gum and others listed above.
So if you’re going to use an E-Cigarette, then this adds further steps to the plan! Let me explain…
#3 – Choose A Vape That’s Right For The Job!
If you’re new to Vaping, which chances are you will be moving on from smoking, knowing what device to pick can be a bit of a headache due to the market being absolutely flooded with different options and devices. But fear not, I’ll talk it all out here to help makes things a bit easier to understand!
You’ll want to get a device that can replicate the sensation of smoking as closely as possible, so it can essentially trick your brain into still feeling like you’re smoking a cigarette, except you’re not, you’re vaping with an E-Cigarette! The device you need to seek out is one that is a “Mouth to Lung” style vaping device.
Mouth To Lung is the name given to the action of how you use your vape, which is inhaling and taking it into the lung, and then exhaling, just like you would smoke a cigarette. This will also replicate the throat hit you previously got from cigarettes due to the nicotine from your vape juice as well.
The best mouth to lung devices I would recommend to someone starting out is either an All in One device (AIO) or a Pod System device. These are relatively simple and straight forward to use and don’t require a lot of maintenance or vape knowledge either, other than keeping your coil refreshed and changing it often.
#4 – Picking The Right Strength Vape Juice Is Crucial
Obviously you can’t use a vape without vape juice, pretty obvious really! And if you’re wanting to quit smoking and use an E-Cigarette as your NRT method, you’re going to need to ensure that the vape juice you use has Nicotine in it!
Vape juice comes in varying Nicotine strengths, and it’s important to pick the right nicotine strength based on how severe your addiction/dependency for Nicotine is. Let’s use 2X Vape Juice as an example (why wouldn’t we?!)
10mg Nic Salts would be best suited for you if you were a “light smoker” so this means that you only smoked up to around 10 cigarettes a day. The nicotine wouldn’t too much for you and would satisfy those nicotine cravings that lurk around.
20mg Nic Salts would be best suited for you if you were classed as a “heavy smoker” this means if you smoked up to or more than 20 cigarettes a day. Chances are you have a high tolerance for nicotine, as well as a higher dependency so you’ll be able to tolerate using a Nicotine strength this high.
I’d outright recommend using Nicotine Salts as the vape juice of choice to help you quit smoking as they have many benefits, such as a quicker nicotine absorption rate which is similar to that of cigarettes, so it’ll be a pretty close replica to the real thing, just without all of the toxic chemicals that come with the actual thing!
#5 – Give Yourself A Target Date
Now this is the last recommendation that I’ll make when it comes to making a plan, and it’s not one you essentially have to do as it could be counterproductive which I’ll explain how as well.
Aim to have a target date set in your mind for when you want to have fully quit smoking. This doesn’t mean quit vaping as well, but just stopping smoking cigarettes completely. Some people when starting out will do what’s called “dual using” which is when they’ll both smoke and vape. This isn’t a bad thing, and it’s a hard transition to make from vaping to smoking, and not many people can completely switch straight away so will tend to dual use.
Have a target date in your mind, or written on a piece of paper or your calendar of when you want to have completely stopped smoking and work towards it. But this is where it can also be a bit counter productive, as don’t put un-needed pressure on yourself to reach this goal. Make it a date that is realistic to you, and you think you can achieve and just make small changes like cutting down how much you’re smoking each day, week, month however long it is away until you reach your end goal!
Don’t be disheartened if you don’t succeed the first time though, as I said, quitting smoking is not an easy task to take on, and not everyone succeeds at the first attempt. But with the correct mindset full of willpower and determination, the drive to want to quit and the correct tools, you can absolutely hit your goal of becoming smoke free thanks to Vaping!
